artificiel is a digital arts group based in Montreal, featuring Alexandre Burton and Julien Roy and a number of regular collaborators. Together, they manipulate concepts and articulate the results via new media, music, and video, the results often appearing in the form of performances and installations. Their unique media art projects explore sonic properties and electrical impulses. Notable past installations include bulbes (2003) and beyond6281 (2004). Their practice also has a performative dimension exemplified by works as cubing (2006) and artificiel.process() (2008). Their recent work POWEr (2009) takes its place among this oeuvre by raising the stakes of spontaneity and working with evermore complex musical structures.
