EXCESSIVE RESEARCH relates to the announcement of transmediale 2016, Conversation Piece. It asks: What happens when research is less about exchange and more about excess?

With the Vilém Flusser Residency Programme for Artistic Research, the Vilém Flusser Archive at the University of Arts (UdK) and transmediale are calling upon artistic research to actively explore the capabilities and limitations of transdisciplinary and transmedial situations in contemporary culture. | Submission Deadline: 30 November 2015

A meetup for spaces and actors at the intersection of art, technology and the politics of digital culture. Organised by transmediale/reSource in cooperation with SPEKTRUM. Participants include Art Laboratory Berlin, Panke, SPEKTRUM, Serhat Köksal (Istanbul), Kristoffer Gansing (transmediale).

One year ago, on June 5th, 2014, we commemorated 1-year of Snowden leaks and debates around the contemporary surveillance complex with 'The Magical Secrecy Tour' (see below). Two years on, the debate has not slowed down or lost it sense of urgency. 

The current issue of A Peer-reviewed Journal About Post-digital Research (Volume 4 issue 1) is now online. This issue examines the implications of datafication for research. It addresses the thematic framework of the 2015 transmediale festival “Capture All” as a research topic: “to investigate and propose actions that push against the limits of today’s pervasive quantification of life, work and play”, as the call explains. Indeed, to what extent does data “capture all” – even research?

Understanding Post-digital Cultural Forms was an intensive One-Day Review Summit organized by transmediale in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office and hosted by the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, 10 November 2014.

Bringing technology into discourse with natural history, Martin Howse and Rosemary Lee will lead a guided walk through the Museum fur Naturkunde Berlin. 2014 Vilém Flusser Residency for Artistic Research Artist in Residence Rosemary Lee will lead a reading and discussion related to her research.
