The filmmaker and photographer George Rey was born in 1942 in Lyon and it was thanks to Andy Warhol that he discovered the underground. Between 1969 and 1982 George Rey made experimental films. Some of these films are in the collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Since 1982 Rey has mainly been making films about other contemporary artists. Between 1976 and 1995 he was the director of the video department at l'Espace Lyonnais d'Art Contemporain where he organised up to 52 video art events per year. From 1976 to 2000 Rey was the director of the experimental cinema "Cinema" and from 1982 to 2000 he also directed the "Cinema Opera" in Lyon. Until 2007 he taught at both the Ecole Supérieure d'Art de Grenoble and the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. In 1994/95 he co-curated the Biennale de Kyon 95 and the 3. Biennial of Contemporary Art about video, computer and cinema. From 1996-98 he was head of the video and new technologies department at the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Lyon. In cooperation with the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Lyon, in 1997 he curated the online exhibition VERSION featuring originals by 27 artists. From 1998-99 he was the artistic director of CHANGEMENT DE TEMPS where he exhibited 7 artists within 7 national landmarks on the occasion of the new millenium.
