Somewhere beyond calculation: Where we arbitrarily "recognize" life
With Tomoya Watanabe, Akihiko Taniguchi, Yuko Mohri and Gabin Ito

Akihiko Taniguchi and Yuko Mohri are artists whose practice is in creating technological phenomena seemingly imbued with the breath of life -- bridging different uncanny valleys to the recognizably "alive" without any reference to "soul," "embodiment," "artificial intelligence/life," nor robotics. A discussion on where they seek "de anima" with editor and game designer Gabin Ito.

The foyer stage is located in the middle of everything going on at transmediale 2014 afterglow. It forms a part of the media-technical landscape survey of Jamie Allen's and David Gauthier's central installation CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE and extends that further into the programme of the festival. The main programme consists of continuously running artists talks of Art Hack Day participants, complemented by special CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE presentations and a hosted set of lectures and readings which serve as a response to the project by scholars, thinkers and artists. These talks will be infra-structurally detected and determined — sub-sensory variables will be recorded throughout as a kind of meta-documentation; sub-sensory data underlying the lecture and conference form.
