Our ethical and enviornmental responsibility in our daily purchases in the supermarket is thematisized by James Patten in his ironic piece ‘Corporate Fallout Detector’. In both appearence and in sound this proto-type is reminiscent of a Geiger counter and makes 'hidden' product information readable, which can be conjured up through a barcode scanner. This machine allows data about the production method of commericiai products to become available, as well as information regarding the moral integrity of the company. In a time when corporate ownership is a maze, can our personal convictions be at all translated into smart buying?
