Throughout the Nineties, the urgent need to communicate and systematize information brought on by the impact of the Internet triggered a strong interest in the visualization and mapping of data. This movement was strongly fed by a rising “euphoria of the image”, leading to complex visual mediations of information. Today’s “revival” of mapping is based on a further technological development, the real time dynamisation of data structures including the ability to reorganise Information in relation to the user’s choice and interest. We can clearly speak of an aesthetic trend that emphasises the beauty of pure data, transforming it into readable structures that follow patterns of formal reduction.
