How I Learned To Overcome My Fear And To Love Arik Sharon
How I Learned To Overcome My Fear And To Love Arik Sharon
An ironic, fictional documentary about the right-wing hardliner and living legend Arik Sharon; about the private person behind the Israeli politician and the "fall" of a left-wing documentary filmmaker who is won over by Sharon's charisma. He sets out with the intention of depicting Sharon as the political monster that he has always considered him to be - the monster who played an almost obsessive role in his own life. After establishing personal contact with Sharon for the first time, and listening to the politician suggest the best shooting dates, the filmmaker's negative image begins to crumble. But it doesn't stop there: he even sacrifices his marriage for his change of heart... This ambivalent docu-farce is an intelligent interplay of classical documentary elements, acted scenes, confessions, dreams (nightmares), and subtle misleadings. An outstandingly subversive work, appropriate to these times of permanent, and fatal, confusion between private and public action.
