The documentation of an illusion. As a building, East Berlin's "Palast der Republik" served pure and simple as 'the' representative piece of authentic socialism, and the present discussions of rebuilding the city castle merely emphasize its status. To a background music from FM Einheit to Wagner, the two Frenchmen living in Berlin make a minute-by- minute documentation of the construction of the gigantic mock-up of the castle, carried out by local construction workers and a group of tradeswomen from the Catherine Feff Studio. In doing so they capture in the simplest of ways an oddly symbolic picture of our glossysurfaced society.
