Digital Plays is playfully and ironically dedicated to the cinematic fiction that so often—and usually unintentionally—ends up in the Trash. The Digit series is based on early artistic computer manipulation and counteracts the male-dominated digital world with a fictional female character, who questions the difference between humans and machines, sexuality and hardware and—naturally—the future of humanity. The Play Life Series documents the filming of Chinese soap operas—including swordsman being flung into ditches. In Gould a man’s head appears in front of a black background, devoid of any context, and is pushed around by a hand to classical music. One of the cheap plastic parts in a studio-made beach scene becomes a path to hollow vanities in Party Island. Video Art Manual gives ‘laconic’ instructions for making fictional video art. The Tiger’s Mind is a puzzlingly narrated thriller in which the elements of the film, such as the music and special effects, become characters.
