Image and sound tracks in film have, in general, been synchronised in such a way that they strengĀthen and complement one another: the visible is made more effective with the audible, and vice versa. At the same time, film - at least since Hitchcock - knows that one can also play with the relationship between image and sound by distorting it, in order to create suspense or irritation, or to awaken unexpected associations. 'Discoded' shows video work in which the codes are mixed and overstepped - with surprising results.
