A weekly series on Brazilian current affairs, Documento Especial (DE) opened in August 1989
at Manchete Network. Over the next three years, it re-cei- ved some of the most important awards of Brazilian television, among them "Trofeu Imprensa", "Association of Art Critics of Sao Paulo Award", "Golden Supercap Award" etc. It was also mentioned by several newspapers and magazines as one of the best TV programs of 1990, 1991 and 1992. In June 1992, DE moved to SBT network (Sistema Brasileiro de Televisao), the second largest TV network in Brazil. Again, it quickly won one of the top ratings . Aired Fridays 10:30 pm, it is seen by an estimated audience of 20 million weekly. Over 140 docu-mentaries were produced at Manchete and, so far, 20 at SBT. For many TV critics, DE started a new era for Brazilian TV journalism, creating wide thematic universes and an absolutely free style.
