dogfilm began working as a film and video production group in Berlin in 1991. Permanent members included Bettina Ellerkamp, Jörg Heitmann, Merle Kroeger, Ed van Megen and Philip Scheffner. Alongside organizing and contributing to any number of cultural events, exhibitions and festivals, dogfilm made a name primarily with documentary and semi documentary films for television, dogfilm stands for the important attempt to combine independent video production with the requirements of state-run television, and to convey socio-political content with a distinct formal vocabulary reaching a wide audience. The group disbanded in spring 2000 after ten years of productive collaboration, not least because of the changed conditions under which independent, alternative television is produced. The presentation is an opportunity to hear members of ‘dogfilm’ talking about their joint work and the future of ‘DIY TV’, and includes the screening of the following ‘dogfilm’ video productions: Short videos for Magazin Z Kanal 4 [Kabinenfieber 1994 I IG Farben 1993 I Soap 1994] Juristische Körper 1995 [for ZDF-Kleines Fernsehspiel I excerpts]
Das Leben ist eine Seifenoper 1996/97 [for Arte I excerpts]
Kein Mensch ist illegal 1998/99 [for Arte I excerpts]
killer.berlin.doc 1998/99 [for ZDF-Kleines Fernsehspiel I excerpts] Workstation 1999 [for Quantum 3SAT]
