In 1934, Edgar Varese put a text from the Popul Vuh to music. This Hymn to the germination of corn, a plant, which has been sacred to the Mayas for centuries, is the invocation of a tribe lost in the mountains after having left the City of Plenty. David depicts this music of Varese. Sometimes diverted in a very stylised way, the eye of the viewer travels amidst the old rituals. The image becomes abstract to the point of blending in with the remnants of a past society which emerges here and there from the equatorial forest.
