The handy Gameboy is not only the most successful computer game plattform; it is also a largely unexplored digital tool that can be used for much more than playing Tetris or Pokemon. Christoph Kümmerer is among the creative users who, in the true spirit of DIY, has learned to programme the Gameboy and adapt it to new, multifaceted functions. In the performance Pocket Noise the Gameboy becomes a musical instrument from which Kümmerer can coax amazingly full, rich musical sounds while in constant combat with the noise factor typical of any machine. Christoph Weber produces the live, accompanying video images that allow the audience to look over the shoulder of the Gameboy virtuoso.
