In That Weird Part
In That Weird Part
Produced as an invited project for the Faithful Festival which itself explores the role of user/interpreter versus composer in classical and pop music, the exhibition 'In That Weird Part' is concerned with the interpretation and editing of pop music in internet user culture. Through the appropriation of music – mostly in the form of music video remakes a new musical vernacular with far-reaching implications is appearing beyond professional networks of composers, musicians and music promoters.
The crossover between user culture and art is blurred. 'In That Weird Part' therefore includes works by artists who see themselves as part of these cultures, or critically reflect on user cultures and their aesthetics, as well as on the corporate environment that aims to frame them.
‘In That Weird Part’ is not a one-off exhibition, but is instead an interim report of an investigation by CTM Festival and transmediale. The next instalment of the project will be shown during the festivals in January. As part of the newly launched network project reSource transmedial culture berlin each festival is working with various partners on the interdisciplinary connections of genres and practices, with the goal of creating opportunities for the mutual exchange of ideas and critical reflection on the relationships between art, technology, politics, and identity.
