During the heyday of Berlin's squatters movement the house on "Manteuffel 40" was only one of more than a hundred such squatted buildings. Many of them had previously been left to rot, and, as investment ventures, became badly damaged at the owner's request - dilapidation caused by the elements meant a lucrative spot for new building. Monheim studies the history of the building with the number 40 - its beginnings and its role at the turn of the last century. He searches out its last tenants and brings them together with its newer ones - the squatters. An affectionate portrait of a house.
