Organizer of [he MEDIA WA VE Festival is the International Visual Art Foundation which was founded by independent groups who had been working in contact for a long time with other groups such as the Visual Workshop of Gyôr, Kôzgâz Visual Art Brigade a.o. that carried out similar “underground" activities during the “socialist”system, just tolerated but not supported by the government. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide a forum for eastern and western European visual cultures to confront and approach each other. The MEDIAWAVE festival organised in Gyôr, Hungary tries to reach these goals with film/video presentations, installations, performances, exhibitions and concerts, a meeting point on the borderline of East and West and a melting pot of spirit and soul rather than of technology.
Founded in 1982 in Szigetvar a virtual art gallery & experimental filmworkshop, the Retina Workshop is the national centre for video art and experimental film. The Retina Experimental Film & Video Festival was the first international film meeting in Hungary. The Retina Workshop will present the new generation of film and video makers from national materials. The first activity of Hungarian independent film is located in Szigetvar too. A truely independent, “free” group was organised in 1982. Our workshop is still working in the line of fine arts and video art and experimental media art with their adjoining territories.
