The street children of Latin America, and of Brazil in p a rticular, are not a new subject. They work, they beg, sometimes they become criminals - and sometimes victims of the police, who often enough would rather shoot them than keep them in custody. Simply because it means less work. Joao M. Salles takes a livelier approach to the problem. At the beginning the viewer thinks that he's seeing the usual gang of street kids. Stop. Salles backs up and starts again: you could also see it this way, differently... Stop... He sketches a variety of possible views that open up new perspectives.
