The video is an official tourist commercial for Palermo, but its methods are unusual. It does not show a string of sights or provide any verbal commentary, but conveys atmospheres from the city and its surrounds. The spirit of the architecture can be felt, and something of the mood at festivals, at the indoor market, and on the streets. The film dispenses with all clichés. With its unconventional camera work, its creative montage and its acoustic texture, it is nothing like standard tourist PR. Rather, it shifts across the boundaries between cinematography, documentary record and video art.
