50 years ago, millions of European Jews were transported across the entire continent in freight trains owned by the German state rail company, the Deutsche Reichsbahn. According to schedule, the trains rolled up to the concentration camps. More than a million Reichsbahn employees conscientiously helped to make the mass deportations possible. Pim Richter follows the trail of these employees in a documentary account striking for its use of artistic devices, unpublished texts and film material and for the evidence it furnishes that neither of the national rail companies in the two post-war Germanies attempted to make a critical assessment of their past: no dismissals, no public admissions or deliberation.
