Seidenstrasse at the CCC Congress: The Pipe Dream goes on!
OCTO-P7C-1 Intertubular Pneumatic Packet Distribution System was transmediale 2013's Official Miscommunication Platform: a joint collaboration between the reSource transmedial culture berlin, the Telekommunisten collective and raumlabor berlin, inolving an international network of more than 100 mail artists coordinated by Vittore Baroni and Tatiana Bazzichelli (read here).
Last December 2013, during the 30C3 Chaos Computer Club Congress in Hamburg a further version of OCTO-P7C-1 named Seidenstrasse was collaboratively created. The Seidenstrasse will be presented at transmediale 2014 afterglow during the After the Revolution panel (With Olof Ehrencrona, Rasmus Fleischer, Frank Rieger, Mey Lean Kronemann, Geraldine Juarez, Moderated by Kristoffer Gansing). Thu, 30.1.14, 17:00h - 18:30h, Auditorium, HKW.
In the first imaginary concept by the Telekommunisten, the OCTO "company" was building a global system to interconnect every household and place of business with pneumatic tubes, which will permit the high-speed delivery of packages to and from any subscriber worldwide (read more here).
Seidenstrasse is a revision of the OCTO installation as an Open Artwork. New features are: A decentralized mesh-style, push-preferred network with endpoints (no vacuum cleaners) and nodes (push-forward / pull on request). A new feature is the option to have onion routing to allow for anonymous transportation in the network.
