Utopia is a social fiction, more or less realistic, more or less imaginary. In science fiction literature as well as in social activism, frequent attempts have been made to play through what happens when utopian concepts are put into practice. The panel brings together a fictional investigation of capitalism, the historical construction of a global community, and a contemporary project for transcending national and biopolitical boundaries in the heterotopia of the sea. Andreas Leo Findeisen is a researcher on media art and media philosophy at the Academy for the Arts in Vienna.
Rebecca Gomperts is a doctor. She started 1999 ‘Women on Waves', a non-profit organization, with the aim to outfit a floating reproductive health clinic that can aid women in countries where abortion is illegal.
Christoph Spehr is a political scientist and historian. Spehr 's writing is a mixture of utopian subversive science fiction and a radical social analysis of today's global capitalism.
