sophiensæle is the oldest continuously operating venue for independently produced theatre and dance projects in Berlin. The venue was founded in 1996 by Sasha Waltz, Jochen Sandig, Jo Fabian and Lubricat as a production and performance space. The idea of creating a new arts venue in Sophienstraße arose from a desire to combine production and presentation under one roof and to give artists optimal working conditions. Today, sophiensæle is one of the main production centres for independent theatre and dance in Germany.
Of all emotional states, happiness is the most abstract. Happiness eludes the concretion and it lasts at best a nanosecond. WAS WIR FÜHLEN #3 Glück is a performance from the depths of dramaturgy exploring and illuminating the cycle of searching for happiness. The performance begins in the ballroom of Sophiensaele and follows a utopian history throughout the various parts of the atmospheric building. A multimedia performance of song, dance, language, film and chamber orchestra.
Since 2002 Novoflot has produced experimental opera performances and installations with companies including Hamburg State Opera, Warsaw National Opera, Théâtre National du Luxembourg and transformer Budapest.
