The momentary merging of media, computer and telecom technologies and their markets increases the meaning of digital forms of production in the film and TV business. To meet the challenge of competition among TV providers, TV stations try to blend in ever increasing elements of digital aesthetics into their productions and use more interactive forms. Film productions without digital techniques are no longer conceivable. More and more sophisticated effects have to be produced to satisfy rising demands by the televiewing audience. These effects are a real test of the technical and logistic potential for the digital providers.
Euromedien GmbH has been deĀ veloping the Babelsberg area into an internationally competitive media capital since 1992. Although the High Tech Center in Babelsberg will officially start its operations in the summer of 1997, services are already being offered. The High Tech Center is focused on a complete re-engineering process in film and media production and wants to make the infrastructure for a digital, networked production environment available. The location of ARD's (German TV network) Programme Center for Digital Video Broadcasting in the media center points the way into the future. The place value of the region Berlin- Brandenburg compared with other national and international production centers and how the location can gain on attractiveness for film and media production should be discussed with regard to the creative users. Two local firms will introduce themselves and present digital visual effect productions. These are: the Berlin company, "Mann im Mond" and
"c.o.r.e.." from Babelsberg.
