A musical/cultural essay with an experimental approach which opens up surprising perspectives on "black identity". A "data-thief" follows the traces of this identity into the past and future,
beginning with the very seed of "black technology", the blues, which in turn generated jazz, soul and hiphop. A culture/technology nourished by the same alienation on which so many science fiction books are based. To be deported into slavery, to be robbed of language, religion and family patterns - that is real alienation, concrete SF history. Musicians like George Clinton, Lee Perry and Sun Ra have faith in new technologies. They firmly believe they come from outer space, the realm of the future. Their musical projections focus on space travel, SF and new technology. These musical/cultural identity trails stretch far into the future. The "data thief" pursues them up to present developments in the Techno- and Jungle-scene. Music as exploration of the future. Outer space as home.
