The Post-Planetary Design: A Speculative Sense
The Post-Planetary Design: A Speculative Sense
Conference Stream Life
The panel presents speculative case studies and scenarios for a technological future of capture. Platforms and autonomous remote sensing systems present more than technological solutions to existing problems – they create their own worlds of sense, accountability and governance. The talks in the panel address this techno-political situation from perspectives of design, theory and economy. The architectural situation of the global moment can in this context be described even as post-planetary with the overarching structures of computation re-naturing the planet and beyond in scenarios that create imaginary futures – and imaginary presents. Hence, also the methodologies of speculative design are relevant in grasping the in itself wild oscillations of capitalist imaginary that grids the planet as its own mode of capture from subjectivity to the ecological, from the involuntary to the conscious rationalities.
Organised by the joint consortium between WSA (Winchester School of Art), USCD (University of California, San Diego) and Parsons The New School for Design.
Edward Keller will be present via video.
