With about 600 submissions, the transmediale’s traditional competition category, the video competition, has once again received considerable international resonance. It has become evident that the production systems and formats of videos, films and video installations have continued to become more hybrid and diverse. The transmediale has thus made a con­certed effort to welcome into its competition all formats, as well as linear and non-linear video works. Under the critical eye of the curators and jurors, works have been selected which either use innovative language to conceptually address their respective themes, or which display a creative sense of self-confidence in a convincing confrontation with the genre.
