Eva Wohlgemuth and Kathy Rae Huffman present their project "Face Settings"
"Face Settings" is a self-reflective project on art and communication between women in 5 European countries. It establishes communication in the real world and on the Internet. It compares communication behaviour and self-presentation using creative, analytical procedures, and then processes and discusses them.
FS is a series of public events that initiate information, creative exchange and communication: a series of performances, videos and web pages, which establish an artistic - metaphorical as well as analytical information pool.
FS has been planned for a duration of 3 years. "Dinner Events" with participants at their respective locations, organised IRCs and tele conferencing sessions are the real points of reference. Communication and up-to-date self presentation are a basic challenge of an increasingly anonymous society, which finds itself between old age bunkering and the generationX rave scene. FS will work on these problems as defined by an open interface that includes all contributors. Real places and situations will be contrasted to the pre set virtual situations in Mud's (Multiuser Dungeons).
By means of the possibilities of digital image processing, FS will carry out a metaphoric processing of the material which has been produced, and will set up a picture, performance and sound archive. Parallel to this, in co-operation with scientists, the material will be scientifically analysed. FS will establish international contacts between women and will broaden the presence, the possibilities of articulation and the independence of women specifically on the Internet.
