Despite the considerable social differences still existing between the „old world" Europe, the USA, and Japan with its mixture of tradition and modernity, some conflicts seem all too familiar. One example is the mother-daughter relationship, with all the problems it entails. Shelly Silver travelled to Japan to shoot a semi-documentary video dealing with the generation conflict which is so striking in a society undergoing a process of radical change and re-thinking of values. She combined the interviews with a type of modern fairy tale - a symbolic story about a girl from New York who tries to shake off a curse.
