The maestro rises from the ice and lifts his baton, the mother of all life bears beings upon beings.Thrown into life. Industrial environment, a run-down warehouse. People. Encounters. Boundaries. Desires. Fears. This video stages a performance by Ema Kugler. Lyrically mystical, beautiful and brutal in equal measure, it plays with elements of the visual arts, cleverly manipulates light and shadow, sounds and music. Time appears to stand still. Power takes its space, takes people in its choking embrace. A tape testing the borders of trivial kitsch, yet never overstepping the mark. Recording performances is a tricky, often futile, venture - but this camera adaptation is one example that works.
