Mathias Wagner K. (born 1961 in Jena) is the artistic director of the first Biennial for International Light Art Ruhr 2010 - open light in private spaces. Since the mid-1980s he has been involved in site-specific projects as well as a series of film & video works and gained a number of international prizes and stipends. He frequently gives illustrated guest lectures at museums and institutions worldwide. Since 2002 he has been working primordially as a curator/ artistic director specialised light art as well as in art and culture from Iceland. To list a few such projects: artistic director of HELLWEG - Ein LICHTWEG (2002-2009); artistic director of the festival ISLANDBILDER - art, photography, literature, film, music, fashion & design from Iceland (with C. Stahl, Köln 2005); since 2006/2007 curator at Felleshus - Pan Nordic Building of the Nordic Embassies, Berlin (for Iceland since 2006/07). 2009 curator of the 1. NORDIC FASHION BIENNIAL Greenland, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Reykjavik 2009. Mathias Wagner K. is also a board member in the section Fine Art: Neuer Sächsischer Kunstverein / European Centre for the Arts - Festspielhaus Hellerau as well as a board member in the section Light at ISEA RUHR.2010. In 2011 he will curate the art and culture programme of Sagenhaftes Island ('Legendary Iceland'), guest of honour at Frankfurt Bookfair 2011.
