A bed made of dry ice, liquid air. The slowly evaporating coldness can be felt with all the senses.
An image of a naked woman is projected on the bed. She is trying to sleep. The visitor can watch her occasionally move and turn around in real time. As if she was frozen, there is no breathing, nothing. In the quiet center of this intimate room subdued sounds from all four corners can be heard: music, natural sound, a female voice and a male voice which is reading from an Amnesty International Report on raped women in Ex-Yugoslavia. Sanja Ivekovic quietly expresses an inhuman coldness, a visual metaphor for violence against women. Prison, camps, hibernation in war times, forced retreat into inner emigration.
But this modern snow-white's coffin is a shelter as well: danger of burning with minus 80 degrees Celsius. And there is hope, too. Time is always present. In the course of the exhibition, the work changes and a surface of snow structures is building up.
The ice block is gradually melting.
