Who said that working with computer hardware was a purely technical activity? Anyone who has ever tried to put together a computer from scratch knows the excitement involved. From plugging the hard drive into the metal inner structure until the tightening of the last little screw in the protective cover to make it all nice and tidy, it is a tense process of balancing passion and discipline. The excitement and accompanying nervousness is even greater when it is the first time. “Linux virgin” Karla Grundick is the first one to tell you that. Referencing the “homebrewed” origins of hacker culture and originally broadcast as a series of five episodes on YouTube linux virgin narrates the story of how Grundick – under the strict guidance of Mistress Koyo – assembled her very first Linux-based personal computer on the floor of her bedroom surrounded by pink walls and numerous girly objects. We see her carefully reading the manual and handling the various parts as well as reaching the point of exhaustion only to be brought back to work by Mistress Koyo. The excitement is so great that it even attracts a male outsider, who peeks through a window and witnesses the two girls engaged in the act and finishing the job to the satisfaction of everyone involved.
