Some time ago I dedicated my first epitaph Jan Gnat (John Bone) - it was a gravestone with a human torso painted on it. In place of a head the torso had the bones of animals (II. International Exhibition of Krag society. Regional Museum Torun 1967). I wanted the epitaph to represent the fate of a person who, already condemned to death, is drained of all artistic energy. It was the symbol of an inevitable end, but at the same time announced a new, creative, still more Intensive energy, a transformation to a wholly new world of possibilities. Today, almost 30 years later, I offer a new epitaph. This time it is Mr. Deer, intended to personify the tendency toward presumptuous gestures. I hope this naive clown, this whore, who is still the creator of beautiful ideas and things, will do away with the nonsense about the sad fate of the modern artist ...

PS: The hunter who sold me his trophies claimed it was the finest, the most vital and splendid, stag in the herd. One he was determined to hit at any price. His excitement returned as he told me how he stalked the stag over a dozen times until he finally managed to shoot the fine specimen straight between the eyes with a shot fired from a golden rifle.
